Connecting with others is not a skill I find easy to do myself. Some people are gifted with the ability to connect seamlessly (it seems) with everyone in a room, but I am not that person. Brooke and I know we will be pushing ourselves beyond our comfort zones as we start a journey of entrepreneurial development of ourselves and the business we hope to create. We hope to connect with others in a helpful manner, but also in a light-hearted and fun manner. We will never seek to hurt others and we hope that others never seek to hurt us. So why have the first post titled The Art of Connection? Honestly, it was easier than deleting the title from the template on the blog site… but also because I need to be reminded of the importance of putting my own feelings aside as I begin a new chapter alongside my daughter. I need to connect with her in a different way so that the respect of a colleague-type relationship is evident as we decide on topics we will chat about while others listen in. I also need to be open-minded about her responses and hear her from the perspective of business partner instead of mother/daughter. I will need to change and that will be a new beginning for me.
As for Brooke, I cannot speak for her. She runs other parts of this business while I focus on the blog. Of course I seek her input and she edits the posts before they are published. However, the content in the blog begins with me and so my perspective will be evident in all that is written here. I make this promise to all who choose to follow:
All perspectives will hopefully be respected in this space. We will not speak negatively of any person or group of people and we will always do our best to provide a welcoming and safe space for all who choose to be a part of our inclusive circle.
This is how we will connect.
